Cosmetics Testing : Is Animal Testing the Best Way?
 

 

         In my opinion, animal testing for cosmetics should be banned because it can be replaced with another examination, and prohibiting it could be exemplary in Asia. First of all, there are experiments which can be replaced instead of animal testing. Many animal rights groups absolutely opposed to the testing, but there were many enterprises of cosmetics that said there’s no choice, too. [1]However, over 500 cosmetic companies don't use the animal testing. [2]For example, Avalon Natural Products, Aubrey-Organics, The Body Shop, and so on. "Without animal testing, companies can produce harmless products", said Be-Cruelty Free, which insists 'do not do experiments on animals' of the international animal rights group, Humane Society International. The companies that didn’t do animal testing replace the test with two another tests without animals. The first one is using artificial cells. [1]In case of the response of skin stimulation, that method is more accurate than using rabbits. The second one is using test tube. Without experiments with animals, using the test tube can sort out the toxicity of raw materials. [3]Also, according to Nick Parmer, who is from Cruelty-Free International, OECD organization has proved around twenty alternative tests. Another example is that there are many cosmetics corporations where they produce their products without testing of animals in Korea. In case of Amore Pacific, which is cosmetic company in Korea, it use artificial cornea. It develops that itself, and the cornea can be used evaluating degree of toxicity through change of color. Second, in case of Korea, if the animal testing is banned, it would be great precedent in Asia because Korean cosmetic industry is famous. Therefore, it can go for the effect of killing two birds with one stone. [4]Hyungjoo Lee, who is Director General for Policy Coordination, said, "After industrialization, animals have been treated just tool instead of life itself, so the number of animals for examination is increasing. However it's too immoderate, so it is the current of the times that permission of animal testing with bioethics." [5]After that, the revision which includes the banning of animal testing was approved in Korea. [6]In addition, in Europe, there are already similar bill since 2013. EU, the European Union, banned examination on animals, and it is also applied with imported goods. Israel, Norway, India etc, which have the greatest cosmetic industry, banned the any products with animal testing. The global campaign "Be Cruelty-Free" did a survey of animal testing. It did survey around 10 countries, and the result is the seventy percent in Korea had agreement of banning the experiment and most countries have over fifty percent agreement, especially 88% in New Zealand. That is to say, the opinion of agreement the banning animal testing is increasing around the world. In brief, banning the animal testing for cosmetics is the trend, so it should be banned, and instead use another testing.

Westerners to Noun and Asians to Verb

       Westerners and Asians have different perception that saw the world for two reasons. Westerners are used to consider with nouns, but Asians are accustomed to concise with VERBS. First of all, Westerners questioned with verb, but Asians with noun. In the situation that asking about drink more tea, Westerners asked “More tea?” However, Asians asked “Drink more?” Westerns used tea as a noun when they ask, but Asians used the verb ‘to drink’ in the same situation. According to Pung Kaiping who is University of California, Berkeley, Psychology professor, English language wanted to be cleared and specific. Sometimes the teachers said "go and eat some fruits" then the kids said “which fruits do you talking about?” That's how the kids in United States reacted, but in case of Chinese children, they understood about what teacher said. Second, Westerners concentrated only about question, but Asians considered with context. Participants had two pictures. One boy who is in center is smiling in first picture, and the others are too. In second picture, the center boy is smiling too, but the others look angry. Experimenters asked ‘Does that boy look happy in the second picture?’ to Westerners and Asians. Most Westerners said the boy is also happy, even someone didn’t know what the difference is of two pictures. However, most Asians said ‘no’ because they realized his face in context. Around the boy, all people look unhappy, so Asians answered that way. This test was also the difference of Noun to Westerners and Verbs to Asians. Westerners focused the question, so they thought only the boy that is the noun, but Asians focused the situation that is connected with verb. In brief, Westerners considered with nouns and events, but Asians conceived with verbs and contexts.

<My Friendly Cafe, Beansbins Coffee>

       The cafe, Beansbins Coffee is my best place where I can concentrate my works. The Beansbins

Coffee is a franchise company, and I especially go to the store around Samgakji station in Seoul.

Whenever I need to do a lot of works, I often go to this cafe to deal with my tasks. First of all, the

cafe is warm and cozy, so I can be absorbed in the works. The interior is decorated with brown color.

The illuminations are yellow light, and the tables, chairs, and blinds are brown. Also the floor is dark

brown. When I went to this cafe, I healed my mental by here's warm atmosphere. Second, there are

many customers at mealtime, so I can indulge in my works only. The store is such a small cafe, but

it's full with many tables and people. Many foreigners also come here because it's in Yongsan-gu.

Then I can hardly find any seat at mealtime. At that time, it's a little bit loud, but mostly I can focus on

my tasks if there has some noise. In addition, I can drink some coffee made from El Salvador's coffee

beans. There are some boxes which are full of coffee beans. Many customers can choose the kind of

coffee beans, and I really like the scent and taste of El Salvador's coffee. It makes me more

concentrate. Fourth, this Beansbins Coffee is eco-friendly. There is a tiny park around the cafe. The

cafe has walls of glass, so I can see the beautiful park and feel coolness of green color. I think the

green color makes my feeling calm, and I can concentrate my tasks. In sum up, my friendly cafe,

Beansbins is the perfect place to concentrate for me because of warmth, proper noise, delicious

coffee, and eco-friendly.

How Does Where I Have Lived Influence How I live?

Noryangjin-dong has influenced ‘hard-working’ for two reasons. First of all, when I prepared lastCollege Scholastic Ability Test at Noryangjin, I really did my best for the test. My elder sister’s university is famous for intelligent students in Korea, so I wanted to go there. But I wasn’t that smart, so my preparatory period had been long. When I decided to study for the exam only one more time, my sister suggested to study in Noryangjin-dong. Because many students who study so hard there,we moved our house and studied together. I promised it was my last time that I have the CSAT, so I studied a lot. It was really hard time for me, but I got good grades. In Noryangjin, I learnt how I prepared about important things and lived intensely. Second, many students who study hard here stung me to study. In Noryangjin-dong, many university students prepare the public official test. They do their best for the exam because it’s their jobentrance test. I studied CSAT with them in the same study room, so I think I studied harder than ever. Nowadays, I have to study the subjects of university. I study here with them, so the atmosphere makes me study hard. And I almost got good grade. In short, I make a greater effort for my work because of the environment in which to study in Noryangjin-dong.
